{"id":1060,"date":"2019-03-13T05:05:24","date_gmt":"2019-03-13T05:05:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.awanuilabs.co.nz\/central\/wellington\/?page_id=1060"},"modified":"2025-12-02T17:04:49","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T04:04:49","slug":"charges-for-lab-tests","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.awanuilabs.co.nz\/central\/wellington\/for-patients\/payments-and-charges\/charges-for-lab-tests\/","title":{"rendered":"Charges for Lab Tests"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When do I have to pay for a lab test?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Awanui Labs Wellington 3 DHB laboratory contract specifies which tests are funded and who can order them.&nbsp; Please refer to the below list of laboratory tests for details of the funding categorisation.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.awanuilabs.co.nz\/north\/auckland\/for-referrers\/price-list\/\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.awanuilabs.co.nz\/north\/auckland\/for-referrers\/price-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Current test price list<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Some general patient tests may have fees<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The tests will have fees if your GP orders them.&nbsp; They will be free if your specialist orders them or if your GP&#8217;s request has already been approved by a registered medical specialist.&nbsp; Payment is required at the time of sample collection.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A service fee&nbsp;will be charged for each visit, and where your test is referred to another testing laboratory additional charges relating to packaging and courier fees will also apply.&nbsp;&nbsp;See price list above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Charges for other tests<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Testing is not&nbsp;paid for by the district health boards in the following situations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>pre-employment or training placement; e.g. nursing and medical students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>employment related (workplace health testing), or for an overseas posting or deployment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>immigration or visa medicals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>insurance medicals or any other medicals such as a pilot&#8217;s medical<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a research study or drug trial or similar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>people who are visiting New Zealand and\/or are not New Zealand residents and who are not elligible for public funding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>patients of non-medical practitioners such as dentists, naturopaths<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>self-ordered by patients.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These lists will be updated as funding rules change.
