{"id":1146,"date":"2019-04-02T04:44:21","date_gmt":"2019-04-02T04:44:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.awanuilabs.co.nz\/north\/auckland\/?page_id=1146"},"modified":"2026-03-17T16:55:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-17T03:55:12","slug":"urine-specimens-for-creatinine-clearance-and-cytology-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.awanuilabs.co.nz\/north\/auckland\/for-patients\/preparing-for-my-test\/urine-specimens-for-creatinine-clearance-and-cytology-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Urine Specimens for Creatinine Clearance and Cytology"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><u>PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important \u2013 Specimen labeling and delivery:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Ensure full first and last names and date of birth (dd\/mm\/yy) are clearly written on the specimen container<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ensure date and time of collection is written on the request form and specimen container<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Take the specimen to a Awanui Labs Collection Centre as soon after collection as possible<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(Tick appropriate box)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\t<strong>CREATININE CLEARANCE<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have been provided with a 24 hour urine container and urine punnets to collect a 24 hour urine sample.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Procedure:<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Start the urine collect early in the morning and record the date and time on the 24 hour urine container label.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completely empty bladder at this time and DISCARD the urine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>During the next 24 hours, collect ALL urine passed into the clean urine punnet and transfer into the 24 hour urine container.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exactly 24 hours after the start time, empty your bladder, collect the urine and transfer to the 24 hour urine container.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Record the completion date and time on the 24 hour urine container label.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If more than one 24 hour urine container is used, label the bottles 1 and 2.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Store the 24 hour urine collect in a cool place.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Maintain good fluid intake during urine collection. <\/strong>Avoid vigorous exercise during the test period (24 hours)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Avoid taking Cortisol inform your Doctor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Deliver container and form to the Collection Centre and a blood test will be taken<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CYTOLOGY URINE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Three specimens are collected on different days and each specimen must be delivered daily to the Collection Centre on the day of collection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drink as much fluid as possible and collect specimen mid-morning (the first &nbsp;urine in the morning should not be used). &nbsp;A minimum of 50ml urine is required in the container provided<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write your full name (first name and last name) and date of birth (dd\/mm\/yy) clearly on the container and either Specimen 1,2 or 3<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ensure date and time of collection are written on the form<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take each specimen (and form) into the Collection Centre each day as soon after collection as possible. &nbsp;Refrigerate if delay anticipated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS Important \u2013 Specimen labeling and delivery: (Tick appropriate box) CREATININE CLEARANCE You have been provided with a 24 hour urine container and urine punnets to collect a 24 hour urine sample.
