Our People

Sally has more than 30 years’ experience as a Scientist in both public and private medical laboratories in NZ including two years in the UK.

Prior to becoming the laboratory Manager for Awanui Labs Taranaki Sally held a number of management and scientific roles at Taranaki Medlab.

Gemma has been a part of Awanui Labs since 2023. Gemma obtained her diploma in applied science through ARA institute while working in the Specimen Services department as a trainee pre analytical technician.

She is currently the HOD of Specimen Services where she enjoys supporting the team, improving processes and providing a high standard of service to our patients and clinical referrers.

Necole completed her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Physiology at the University of South Africa. She has worked in laboratory settings since 2017, gaining experience in Haematology, Biochemistry and Microbiology, before further specialising in Biochemistry through her Honours Degree, which she completed in 2021.

In 2024, she moved from South Africa to New Zealand, bringing her laboratory experience and specialist knowledge with her. She joined Awanui Labs that same year and is now HOD of Biochemistry.

Born and raised in Taranaki, Nicole graduated with a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS with distinction) from Massey University in 2007. 

She is qualified in all 3 core laboratory disciplines (Haematology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology) but has enjoyed making Haematology her specialty focus since 2014.

Gareth has 23 years’ experience in Anatomic Pathology, working in laboratories around the North Island, and 2 years in the UK.  This involved all levels of Histology work and some exposure to non-gynae cytology and mortuary techniques.

The Histology work started in Wellington hospital where he trained as a technician.  Travel to the UK broadened and developed his knowledge of more challenging techniques putting him on track to extend himself further.  After retraining to become a Scientist, work at Palmerston North and Wellington honed his skills before moving to Taranaki Medlab for the HOD position.  He has been now been working here since 2012.

Janice started working as a medical laboratory technician 44 years ago and has worked in a variety of laboratory departments.

Janice is currently the HOD of Patient Services at Awanui Labs Taranaki.
