Newsletter: 12 February

In this issue of our newsletter we feature:

New comment for minor identification errors

As part of our laboratory accreditation compliance, Awanui Labs is now required to inform all requestors when samples have been accepted for testing despite minor patient identifier errors.

Starting February 9, you’ll notice the following comment included as part of individual results for these cases:

“Note: The sample or request form received was accepted with a minor identifier discrepancy that met the laboratory’s acceptance criteria. If you have any concerns about the minor discrepancy that was present on the form or sample, please contact the laboratory directly.”

Streamlined new requestor setup process

We’ve established a new online form for setting up new requestors in our system, designed for greater efficiency in requesting laboratory test requests and receiving patient results. You can access this form directly on our website or through the provided link.

**Important Reminder ** Please keep your medical centre requestor records up to date by advising Awanui Labs whenever you have new staff starting or staff leaving your facility. This ensures our records remain accurate. Complete the online form for all new staff members and email any updates or changes to: wlg.newrequestors@awanuilabs.co.nz

Awanui courier – sample collection location changes

We are updating our courier sample collection procedures across all medical centres to align with wider courier industry practices, including those used by NZ Couriers and Sub 60. These changes are being made to improve patient privacy and support consistent courier schedules.

In some facilities, Awanui Labs couriers currently collect from multiple internal pickup points located within different clinical areas.

Effective Monday, 2 March 2026, Awanui Labs request that:

  • All courier collections take place from one designated pickup point at the front reception desk
  • Awanui couriers will no longer enter clinical or non-public areas
  • All samples be available at reception prior to the scheduled pickup time

We thank you for your support with this change. For any questions or clarification, please contact:
